Most of what passes for “content” these days is disposable. Made fast, optimized for whatever invisible math decides what people see today, and forgotten about five minutes later.
That never interested me much.
I’m Kennyatta, and what I care about are the stories that stick. The ones rooted in culture, in places, in the messy, contradictory reality of how people actually live, work, and make things.
Having someone to test ideas with consistently is a privilege for any photographer, let alone any artist or creator.
I’ve been twice as fortunate because Kira has grown as a model during each break between working together so there’s always more room for us to push ideas and maintain flexibility with concepts during the photoshoot.
This photoshoot’s focus was skill building.
Product photography can take on many different forms. We’ve seen versions with a variety of elements in front of a backdrop and shaped with artificial lights. We’ve also seen versions in lookbooks for example where the product is shown through the experience of the model or talent being photographed.
I prefer the second version.
I love experiences, I love context, I love the real world, and I love to see the value of products expressed through real use.
Do you have a story waiting to be captured, or are you looking to test shoot a concept for your book?
