This is where you’ll find a living archive of my projects, the work I’ve done with clients, and chonicles of my adventures as I change the world.
I’m a Miami-based photographer + brand strategist focused on defying the odds and telling the dopest stories for clients who are interested in doing the same.
I believe stories are the vehicles that move culture forward and there’s nothing more important today than strengthening cultural integrity across the arts, urban environments, fashion, and hospitality.
Curiosity: Why don’t more people shoot outside? Category: Commentary
I wrestle with in-studio photography. Look at my work, you’ll notice most of it is outside and on locations. On the one hand, I understand the professional feel and degrees of difficulty that come with studio photography, on the other hand, I can’t help but feel it robs you of everything that makes being a photographer exciting. Sure, you can create a beautiful image in the confines of the studio, but the magic of photographing in your city is undeniable. Outdoor photography isn’t just about using natural light; it's about catching the life of your community, telling its stories, and making a tangible impact. So yes, you can shoot in the studio, but consider using your city as a backdrop and how doing so can elevate your local influence and build your connection to your community.
DO IT FOR YOUR CITY
Cities offer a palette rich in history, culture, and diversity that’s in a constant flow. Whenever you choose to shoot outdoors, you can capture some of these moments in time that even if repeated, can’t be duplicated. Shooting on location isn’t just about finding the perfect light or backdrop; it’s about engaging with the environment and the people that make it so vibrant. Having real life as the backdrop to your creative ideas creates opportunities to highlight issues, celebrate successes, and even influence change by giving lived context to your images.
INCREASE YOUR VISIBILITY
Unlike the confines of a studio, working in public spaces puts you right in the eye of the community. This visibility attracts potential clients and sets you up as a visible proponent of your city’s culture and day-to-day life. I’ve personally had people walk up to me in the middle of shooting and ask “Are you a photographer in the area? do you have a way I can contact you or get your card?” With so much attention on building a global audience, people miss the local opportunities within reach. Moreover, by sharing these outdoor images on social media with local hashtags or geotags, you can grow your local following and enhance your digital footprint to establish yourself as a must-know contact in your city. If you’re shooting outside, it’s inevitable for you to interact more with people in your community and get to know the businesses in the area. These interactions present opportunities to be storytellers and advocates for the cities you’re shooting in. Whether it’s shooting local events or everyday moments, you produce work that resonates personally, encouraging a sense of shared identity and community pride for the people who can identify with what they see in your work.
Listen, I’m not discouraging studio work, I’m just suggesting to ditch the studio now and then and take to the streets. The city is alive. Your city is filled with stories waiting to be told through your lens. As photographers, we can influence, connect, and transform our community. Step outside the box, and let your city be your muse.
If you’re a muse looking to work with a photographer who uses the cities they’re in as a backdrop to tell new stories, you can email me here, and we can start telling that story together.
