This is where you’ll find a living archive of my projects, the work I’ve done with clients, and chonicles of my adventures as I change the world.
I’m a Miami-based photographer + brand strategist focused on defying the odds and telling the dopest stories for clients who are interested in doing the same.
I believe stories are the vehicles that move culture forward and there’s nothing more important today than strengthening cultural integrity across the arts, urban environments, fashion, and hospitality.
Curiosity: Why don’t we hear more DJ stories? Category: Interviews
The role of the DJ has evolved over the years, from simply playing popular music on the radio and curating sounds for private parties to becoming a key figure that provides artists with the support needed to deliver unforgettable moments to their fans.
The self-proclaimed "Fairy Vibe Mother,"DJ Miss Milan, uses her deep understanding of the craft of DJing and her curiosity about the origins of new sounds to stay connected to the culture while translating the essence of good music to those who have a taste for it. In the midst of an impressive run of shows, tours, and projects, she remains fully present, embracing everything that comes with carrying the torch for a craft that supports an entire industry.
"Right now, I’m seeing the fruits of my labor from working so hard for many years," Milan said. "But being present in it makes me aware that there’s still more work to do. I’m a natural hard worker, so I’m always trying to top the last thing I’ve done. With this project and working with Doechii, it’s been amazing, but we’re still just getting started."
Released as a mixtape on Aug. 30, Doechii’s Alligator Bites Never Heal left critics in awe of her ability to express emotions with such fluidity, weaving together lyrics that narrate experiences relatable to listeners while drawing parallels to the state of the genre. Sonically, the album feels like listening to silk — a renaissance of a style of hip-hop that manifests only for those who honor its origins.
"It’s been amazing to see how people have received [Doechii's] project and tuned in to listen to what she has to say as an artist," Milan said. "We’ve worked together since 2021, right before she signed to TDE. For us to have this synergy and to contribute to a project like this, it’s amazing."
Milan joins Camper with producer credits on the song “Boom Bap,” one of the records leading up to the mixtape’s release. In the song, Doechii switches between scat sounds and flinging potent lyrics before yelling “GET TOP ON THE PHONE” in various distortions over a melodic hip-hop beat. The song sparked think pieces, as listeners tried to rationalize their enjoyment of its many elements despite its deviation from familiar song structures.
"I know there were mixed reviews when people first heard it. I understood what she was doing when she made the record, but not everyone has that insight when they listen," Milan said. "The people who got it understood that she was poking fun at the industry a bit after giving so many different vibes, versatility, and bars upon bars. She had fun showcasing her skills while also showing her personality."
As the "Fairy Vibe Mother," DJ Miss Milan’s fans easily recognize her sound. Whether at the GU Creator House during Essence Fest, the BET Awards, Coachella stages, or alongside artists like Justine Skye, Saweetie, and now Doechii, her audience is drawn to her eccentricity and her ability to transform songs to pique their curiosity.
In a time when following arbitrary blueprints and being carbon copies are common, DJ Miss Milan remains unwavering in her commitment to honoring her craft, music, and devotion to serving God. Personal accolades carry little weight compared to her responsibility to see who she can become by pouring everything into what she does. If the DJ is one of the cornerstones of music, the foundation of the industry is secure with Milan in the mix.
"I’m in a space where I’m developing my own sound and taste in music that people can appreciate," Milan said. "I’m the kind of DJ I want to go out and listen to. I’m doing me, doing what I love, and the people who are attracted to it are the ones that get it."
